Adaptive Information Processing (AIP)
- All human beings have an internal information processing system which is an important feature of how the brain works
- Human brains are incorporating and processing new experiences all the time
- Within every human being there is a natural tendency towards mental health and psychological well-being
- Psychological healing is very similar to physical healing
- Trauma and stress can sometimes cause upset within the body’s nervous system which creates blockages so that information cannot be processed properly— rather like a virus-corrupted memory file in a computer
- This ‘corrupted’ or dysfunctional memory is stored within the brain in its unprocessed state, causing the individual to display all the on-going signs and symptoms of trauma: cognitive, emotional, behavioural and physical.
- These unprocessed memories become the target for EMDR Therapy and are then processed to the point where they are no longer disturbing
